APPROACH
“Wholistic Rural Empowerment Program” (WREP) stresses upon improving the quality of life of rural communities, by satisfying their socio-economic and cultural aspirations and strengthening their social organization, while protecting natural resources. It is by establishment of a model in which commercial success is integrated with the social and cultural development of the society.
Our approach to development is "bottom-up". Here, we aim at the poor people and provide them added source of income. Our motive is to improve the status of the underdeveloped families by imparting trainings, entrepreneurial skills and offering them with milking cows and a ready-made market to sell the produce, so that they could become self-sustained.
WREP focus on Wholistic farming to develop a production system that sustains the health of soils, ecosystems and people. It relies on ecological processes, biodiversity and cycles adapted to local conditions, rather than the use of inputs with adverse effects. One of the most important success factors towards rural empowerment is cattle concentric organic farming. WREP combine Tradition, Innovation and Science for fulfilling rural needs through utilization of dung, urine and milk. The farmers remain centre of decision making process.
Food Processing is an important aspect to raise rural incomes and achieve all-round inclusive growth. The emphasis would be in establishment of food processing facilities and R&D centers to achieve the objective of processing of perishable items and to raise value addition.
Surabhi Foundation has developed the concept of “Holistic farming”, which takes into account all the aspects of agriculture: profits, environment, and health.
Some of the key features of holistic farming are
• Use of indigenous seeds suitable to local conditions
• Use of fertilizer and pesticide made for cow dung and cow urine
• No/low energy consumption system
• Development of low or no cost farming technology
• Tailored for small landholder
The farmer becomes self-reliant and frees himself from vicious cycle of using high cost inputs and trap of money lenders.
For this, the farmer needs cow that naturally delivers Gobar and Gomutra by eating the farm land left over. The farmer uses simple techniques using Gomutra and Gobar for developing the fertilizer and pesticides.
